New Look 6407..... Modified

I think I have recuperated from our vacation.  We had a blast visiting my mother, brother, sister, daughter and grandson, who all live in Oregon, luckily not too far apart!   I only wore me made clothes the whole trip, except for my self modified Eddie Bauer denim jacket.

I had made up NL 6407 before going on vacation.  I figured since I really liked it and had the fit pretty good, I thought I should modify it to be a cute weekend shirtdress.

I just lengthened it past hip length, curving out for a little more room.  I curved the hem in the back to be longer, and the front hem a little shorter than the back.  This was my muslin, so I used a 'loud fabric' as described by my husband.

I had to add pockets to the side seams, as every shirt dress needs pockets!

I love the mandarin style collar.  Makes a nice frame for the face.

I used a cotton batiste for the facing, armhole finish and the pocket bags.

My new love....  Pro Supreme Medium from FashionSewingSupply.com.  This inter-facing is amazing.  I just hate when an interfacing bubbles after the first washing.  This stuff says adhered, soft and supple.  Worth every penny.

Here is a better shot of the curved high /low hem.

My husband says 'It is cute'  I think that is his way of saying, not bad for such a loud fabric.  Of
course, I could be wrong.  He is a man.  He might just mean It is Cute.

Lessons for the next one, need to cut the front armhole a little lower.

More Basics.... Kirsten Kimono Tee

I really like MariaDenmark's Kirsten Kimono Tee.  It is a simple make and a cute Tee.

Once I trace out a pattern, I store them in gallon size Ziploc bags.  I add a scrap of the fabric used, to the bag, each time I make one.  Great resource for when you want to replace an item, and can't remember which pattern you used!

I made 2 today.  One in a striped light knit jersey from JoAnns, and one white mystery knit that I picked up at a yard sale.  5 yards for .50

I topstitched around the neckband with a long straight stitch.

This time I added bands to finish neckline, arms and bottom. Got to love no hemming!

New Look 6407

I have made this top a few times, none of which fit me any longer.
I guess I did not review either of them.  Oh well, here I am again.
This time I made view E, the yellow one.  Just a collar stand and short sleeves.

This time I changed up the shoulders a bit.  I followed the shoulder slope of the Scout, but other than that, I mostly followed the 6407 pattern.   I did not include the vertical front or back darts.   This was a yard of Bloom stretch cotton from Fabric.com.  I just love the brightness of it.

MariMoss skirt, Basics have begun

I love the Moss skirt.  I love the Maritime shorts.  I love them morphed into one skirt!

A brown denim with a slight stretch from JoAnn's.  Washed and dried in dryer, 3 times before cutting out.

Wider waistband (from V8774), added belt loops and back pockets.

I love skirts.  So easy to wear.  As comfortable as shorts!  Maybe more so!

I also have some navy blue denim with some stretch.  Have not decided yet I will make another MariMoss or may a Rachael Comey 1247.

June, the month of Basics

That is what I hope to accomplish this month.  To look back on MMM, identify and fill in the holes of my MM wardrobe.  I think for me, that is basics.  More casual skirts, trousers, and tops.  Light jackets for air conditioned office.  Maybe a summer dress. I really enjoyed wearing NL 6020, so I am thinking maybe I need another.

Today I started off with a green and cream, lace knit striped Kirsten Kimono. The pattern is free from MariaDenmark, it takes less than a yard, and if unlined, takes about an hour.  Took two hours for this top.  $8.99 for the knit.  Got to love that.

To match the stripes, I pinned each side of the green stripe.  Lot of pinning, but, it worked very well!

Loving my tri-fold wall mounted mirrors.

I love this polished stones necklace.  I bought it in Maui last summer.  It was hand made by an local artist.

The knit was very thin on the lacy stripes, so I lined it.  Which means no hems, no neck band.  Yay!
I did this by first sewing the shoulder seams on the outer fabric and then the inner fabric. (I used a 1/4"strip of bias tape on the seam line, to prevent the shoulder seam from stretching out too much) Then joining them together at the neckline (again using the bias strip on seam line )  Next, sewed side seams on striped fabric and then side seams on lining, except on one side of lining, I used a basting stitch for about 6" of the side seam.  I pressed the side seams open (this was to set in the side seam crease where I had basted it, to make it easier to hand stitch later).  I then unpicked the basting, turned the Tee inside out through this opening in lining side seam.  I then pinned the hem striped fabric to the hem lining fabric, for both sleeves and bottom hem and sewed them (be sure you have the fabric right sides facing when you do this, or you will end up with a mess that won't turn right side out!  Once done, I pulled the Tee back through the opening and hand stitched it closed.  Yay! no hemming!

I have a brown denim MariMoss skirt on the cutting table.  I think it will look great with this new Kirsten, and also fit right into my existing wardrobe as well.
