Simplicity 1422

Not sure what draws me to patterns that are not flattering on me.  I went with view C (orange shirt).  I muslined it TWICE.  The collar pattern piece was one piece collar and stand together.  Not a good look on muslin 1 or 2.  and short? damn.  belly button short.  Also not a good look.  For my 3rd and final version, I lengthened the front by 4".  I used the Grainline Archer collar and stand.  I shortened the sleeves.  Finally a shirt that fits and is flattering.    I would love it, except.  EXCEPT the non planning on my part of the polka dots along the front button band.  I hate how the flow seems broken by the cut off polka dots on either side of band.  Just makes it look off somehow.  I keep thinking a non sewer (100% of people I see ) would never notice.  But it nags at me.  What do you think?

I also added a center pleat to the back, easy way to add more drape and fitting room.

You just have to love the Archer collar.  A beauty every time.

  2. I'm trying not to sound cynical right now, and my apologies, but you must be kidding me? The button placket thing is not going to be in your face while you where it, and I didn't even notice it until I read the content of your post. If anyone else notices "before" they read your words, then, ten-to-one, you don't need to be around them when you wear this. We really need to get over this micro-OCD-sewing trip.

  3. It's a lovely blouse/shirt. I read your dissatisfaction and looked, looked again and honestly still couldn't see what would bother you enough to be dissatisfied with this lovely garment. I guess I'm just not OCD enough, but it's just lovely to me and I'd wear it proudly!

  6. I like your blouse too, it is lovely!
If you are still very bothered by the partial dots either side of the button band: why not get ribbon of a suitable colour and sew it over them? One either side of the button band. Make it look as if this was your plan all along (my favourite solution strategy: make a feature out of a bug). It doesn't have to be a very frilly or lacey ribbon, it could just be plain. and if you can't find any in the right colour do you have enough fabric left to cut some 'bias' tape out of the space between the dots and use that?
